MUCH ABOVE WHAT I EXPECTED,THE MOST DESERVED OSCAR SINCE YEARS
Frankly speaking i just watched it coz of the O-factor & since i have seen the Academy Awards i really wanted to finish all the winners, nominations & critically appreciated ones.I guess i had seen just a single movie of Colin Firth behorehand viz..'What A Girl Wants' & see,now i remember another one, his role resembling a lil to this one in 'Love Actually' as the man in looove with his maid & the sweet tale that followed.[I jus looooove that movie].
love actually is all around JJJ
Now if you are watching a movie which has won an Oscar[My Take] ,you either are gonna go home praising the movie & continue to do so for days, months & years to come or be silent for a while uncertain of criticizing it[since it won an Oscar] but @ the same time wondering what was in it which made the jury go for this one[as i wonder with 'Black Swan',though haven't completed it as of now].
Some of the Oscar winning movies which am just crazy about [though while watching them i wasn't even aware of them being 'Academy Awards Winners :
Al Pacino's 'Scent Of A Woman'
Russel Crowe's 'Gladiator'
Tom Hanks's 'Forest Gump' & 'Philadelphia'
&
Kevin Spacey's 'American Beauty'.
So as i started with 'The King's Speech',was moved by the opening scene only when Colin Firth as 'The Duke Of York;[King's younger son,George] gives all his best to deliver the speech in lieu of the Majesty himself who wasn't there of course. It is here we come to know George's speech problem & that he stammers[his doctors who recommend him to smoke to clear his throat & some others who have his mouth filled with marbles while he speaks all going in vain & leading to his short temper.
I would like to mention here that not being a very ardent fan of either Colin Firth or period movies & all those Holy Kings & Queens movies, there was not even a second i got bored & for the 2nd time in my life i give all the maximum concentration to a movie[after 'The Da Vinci Code'] ,admiring all the little facts which has made this movie stand in the league of Academy Award Winning Classics like 'Citizen Kane','Ben Hur','The Lawrence Of Arabia' & ummmm...The Lord Of The Rings.
Watch it for the struggles of a person who is not a Commoner yet has his own fights[with himself] as a common man,a man devoid of friends,a difficult childhood [buh-buh-buh-bertie] but with people, his family around him,his wife & father who believes one day he would make it Big[though couldn't speak to his face] & then finally meeting a man[Geoffrey Rush] who would help him, help himself & change the history of Great Britian for sure & stand out in one of the most tough times England had ever faced.
I remember just 24 hours ago,a friend of mine [Singham] asking me bout the director of 'The King's Speech' & me cutting a sorry figure for myself [I have Great Expectations from myself J] just knowing that it has won 4 Academy Awards[Best Original Screenplay,Best Direction,Best Actor & Best Motion Film].Well, let bygones me bygones,i am not forgetting it this time with my all due respects to Mr.'Tom Hooper'..the man behind, this one.
Strong performances by all viz.Helena Bohman Carter[Queen Elizabeth] & a special reference to 'Geoffrey Rush' as 'Lionel Logue' who has infused enormous life to this character, right from the word Go,he has been phenomenal.
There are many moments in the movie when you would really feel for King George-VIII [while speaking his heart out to Lionel, when the latter says..Well 'What're friends for' & he replies..
"I Wouldn't Know".
"I was afraid of my father & my children are damn well gonna be afraid of me".
The practising sessions, the Final Speech which is pure ingenious & the swearings[saw Colin Firth asking a pardon for the same & the use of the F-Word from the Queen in the Academy Awards JJJ].
I guess well,i have said enough, rest you gotts find it out for yourselves. One of the most genuinely simple & sweet movies of all time & one thing more,i dreaded watchin it just coz of the name, imagining it to be a looooooong & boring account of a King's life again after,King Lear,King Richard,King Arthur,Queen Elizabeth & all[though i haven't seen any of them]. {Prejudice, MY BAD}. LLL

Well seems like have written more than enough,Verbose,Bombastic,Long Winded J
Watch it for Colin Firth & you are gonna crave for more of him,as i did 'Imdbing' him for his earlier movies 'A Single Man' being the next.
