THE KING'S SPEECH

MUCH ABOVE WHAT I EXPECTED,THE MOST DESERVED OSCAR SINCE YEARS
Frankly speaking i just watched it coz of the O-factor & since i have seen the Academy Awards i really wanted to finish all the winners, nominations & critically appreciated ones.I guess i had seen just a single movie of Colin Firth behorehand viz..'What A Girl Wants' & see,now i remember another one, his role resembling a lil to this one in 'Love Actually' as the man in looove with his maid & the sweet tale that followed.[I jus looooove that movie].

love actually is all around JJJ

Now if you are watching a movie which has won an Oscar[My Take] ,you either are gonna go home praising the movie & continue to do so for days, months & years to come or be silent for a while uncertain of criticizing it[since it won an Oscar] but @ the same time wondering what was in it which made the jury go for this one[as i wonder with 'Black Swan',though haven't completed it as of now].

Some of the Oscar winning movies which am just crazy about [though while watching them i wasn't even aware of them being 'Academy Awards Winners :

Al Pacino's 'Scent Of A Woman'

Russel Crowe's 'Gladiator'

Tom Hanks's 'Forest Gump' & 'Philadelphia'

&

Kevin Spacey's 'American Beauty'.

So as i started with 'The King's Speech',was moved by the opening scene only when Colin Firth as 'The Duke Of York;[King's younger son,George] gives all his best to deliver the speech in lieu of the Majesty himself who wasn't there of course. It is here we come to know George's speech problem & that he stammers[his doctors who recommend him to smoke to clear his throat & some others who have his mouth filled with marbles while he speaks all going in vain & leading to his short temper.

I would like to mention here that not being a very ardent fan of either Colin Firth or period movies & all those Holy Kings & Queens movies, there was not even a second i got bored & for the 2nd time in my life i give all the maximum concentration to a movie[after 'The Da Vinci Code'] ,admiring all the little facts which has made this movie stand in the league of Academy Award Winning Classics like 'Citizen Kane','Ben Hur','The Lawrence Of Arabia' & ummmm...The Lord Of The Rings.

Watch it for the struggles of a person who is not a Commoner yet has his own fights[with himself] as a common man,a man devoid of friends,a difficult childhood [buh-buh-buh-bertie] but with people, his family around him,his wife & father who believes one day he would make it Big[though couldn't speak to his face] & then finally meeting a man[Geoffrey Rush] who would help him, help himself & change the history of Great Britian for sure & stand out in one of the most tough times England had ever faced.

I remember just 24 hours ago,a friend of mine [Singham] asking me bout the director of 'The King's Speech' & me cutting a sorry figure for myself [I have Great Expectations from myself J] just knowing that it has won 4  Academy Awards[Best Original Screenplay,Best Direction,Best Actor & Best Motion Film].Well, let bygones me bygones,i am not forgetting it this time with my all due respects to Mr.'Tom Hooper'..the man behind, this one.

Strong performances by all viz.Helena Bohman Carter[Queen Elizabeth] & a special reference to 'Geoffrey Rush' as 'Lionel Logue' who has infused enormous life to this character, right from the word Go,he has been phenomenal.

There are many moments in the movie when you would really feel for King George-VIII [while speaking his heart out to Lionel, when the latter says..Well 'What're friends for' & he replies..

"I Wouldn't Know".

"I was afraid of my father & my children are damn well gonna be afraid of me".

The practising sessions, the Final Speech which is pure ingenious & the swearings[saw Colin Firth asking a pardon for the same & the use of the F-Word from the Queen in the Academy Awards JJJ].

I guess well,i have said enough, rest you gotts find it out for yourselves. One of the most genuinely simple & sweet movies of all time & one thing more,i dreaded watchin it just coz of the name, imagining it to be a looooooong & boring account of a King's life again after,King Lear,King Richard,King Arthur,Queen Elizabeth & all[though i haven't seen any of them]. {Prejudice, MY BAD}. LLL

Well seems like have written more than enough,Verbose,Bombastic,Long Winded J

Watch it for Colin Firth & you are gonna crave for more of him,as i did 'Imdbing' him for his earlier movies 'A Single Man' being the next.

Thanks for the great recommendation again Jass since "It's a wonderful life".

Yo Adrain Yo..

Ama Rocky Yaad aa gayi J

This week has been great for movies, 'Dead Poet's Society' review coming soon.

CINEMA PARADISCO[1988]

AN ODE TO CINEMA & A
 CELEBRATION OF LIFE

"A filmmaker recalls his childhood, when he fell in love with the movies at his village's theater and formed a deep friendship with the theater's projectionist."

I very vividly remember the 1st time i read the tagline of this movie on IMDB & knew this is the one i was really looking for.Its like you see someone & all of a sudden just decide "She is the one" or "This is the girl am  gonna marry".It was it.I really don't know why it took me so long to actually copy it from my Dvd [downloaded months back] & view it,i guess i wondered if am gonna find the exact subtitles for this Italian movie in the perfect chronological order in which the dialogues are delivered in the movie.

Now every week myriad of movies come & go,adventure, action, mystery, thriller, drama, horror, art, comedy, romance, whatever the genre may be what i really miss & i guess many would agree with me on this,we miss a 'heart'.Rare does a movie come now which makes us dream,or as a matter of fact makes us travel down that amnesia lane & cherish those memories which though not forgotten have been hidden somewhere even we fail to recall.

'Cinema Paradisco' touched my heart & so it did of millions of Fans all over the world. It is & would owezzz be closest to my heart along with 'Scent Of A Woman' , 'Woh Lamhe' , & 'It's A Wonderful Life'.Being a die hard fan of Cinema & everything associated with it i saw myself in 'Toto' & really could relate to it in so many ways. Not just me,a lot of people may have seen themselves in the young Tito they once were & as the movie progressed it gradually grew upon us.

Alfredo: Living here day by day, you think it's the center of the world. You believe nothing will ever change. Then you leave: a year, two years. When you come back, everything's changed. The thread's broken. What you came to find isn't there. What was yours is gone. You have to go away for a long time... many years... before you can come back and find your people. The land where you were born. But now, no. It's not possible. Right now you're blinder than I am.

Salvatore: Who said that? Gary Cooper? James Stewart? Henry Fonda? Eh?

Alfredo: No, Toto. Nobody said it. This time it's all me. Life isn't like in the movies. Life... is much harder.

Now before i start on the lauding,approbations,cheering,rooting,hand-clapping & standing ovations for the movie & Giuseppe Tornatore[Director,Writer,Screen-Play] i would like you all to see the Awards this Cinema's Magnum Opus gathered when it 1st released in 1988-1989.

Awards

The movie travels in flashback where this man "Salvatore'Toto'De Vita" recalls the incidents which carved an eternal stamp of Holy Memories on heart as a boy,his fascination with the whole concept of movies, the man [Alfredowho though being the age of his father, finds the best friend in Tito[this boy] & vice-versa,teaches him all bout Projections, handling reels & organising a show[most of which the keen young Tito learns on his own] & his childhood love which has anyone ever been able to forget???

The movie gradually grows upon you & just during the 1st 15-20 mins only you start to realize it wasen't at all a mistake to view this Foreign Language Movie with subtitles on this cool Saturday evening.

I could relate to this movie a lot being a Die Hard, ardent, zealous fan of Cinema & the whole concept of Movie making. Moreover this movie happened @the perfect of times, around 50 days before i start with my Media studies on the same. Its a fact though that the younger u may be the more you are gonna enjoy this movie & when u mature up its would be again a Tribute to those young innocent days.On the contrary if like me you end up watching it@ an age when you are mature enough[am i] it would be a straight Question to your ownselves[Why Didn't I Watch It Earlier] & then when u age up[50s-60s],u can again relive your life in those 122 minutes & fall in love with the beauty, simplicity & sheer sweetness of this movie.

After a long time,i have seen a movie which would be loooooooved by all,the masses, classes, young, teenage, old, cinema lovers,Dreamers,Itilians[of-course],Americans,Africans,Asians & all form of Human Beings created by
The Almighty.

Watch it for Yourself..& relive your life once again, this time through 'Giuseppe Tornatore's eyes but the Dreams would be yours.

MAHESH BHATT'S ZAKHM-AN EPITOME OF TRUTH

SHOCKINGLY MOVING,WOULD LEAVE YOU SPELLBOUND,DUMB-FOUNDED,BEDAZZLED

I have been a Die hard Fan of Bhatt Sahab[Mahesh Bhatt] since i watched 'Woh Lamhe' in the falls of 2006.Though it had started 3 years back with 'Saaya',Woh Lamhe was the one which really moved me & since then there was no looking back. The name was enough for me to drag me to the nearest Silver Screens always with loads of expectations, everytime which were fulfilled[though we haven't; had that much of the real Bhatt touch since Awarapan(2007)].

I very vividly remember Saaya as being just the 3rd movie of my life@the Big Screen & the 1st one of the beginning of an independent life.It was a day worth cherishing & still very vividly remember that '13th July'[2003].'Vijay Cinemas' it was, noon show ofcourse, accompanied by Tib[now Singham].What really made me & go for it,i still don't know.Maybe i was tired of living a life where i was never like taken to movies like other children & i may surprise many a people here my debut @Big Screens was at the age of 15[Class Xth],that too after prolonged discussions & negotiations[i would neva forget & even understand why i was made to wear that Tie by Papa for the show],the movie being K3G &......well lets take a Break...Phewwwwwwwwwwwwwww !!!

Well....i guess i was here today for something else but when the discussion bout "My Movie Life" started i again deviated from the topic.Chalo koi gal nii, raahi manzil dhund hi lenge.

'Can True Love Bring Back The Dead'- Saaya

'For Everyone,Who Has Loved & Lost'- Woh Lamhe

'She Fell In Love With Him The Day She Left Him'- Gangster

'Love Was His Only Destination'- Awarapan

I have really been fascinated by Bhatt's movies since then & post Woh Lamhe they were bove 'Christpher Nolan's, 'David Lynch's & 'Quentin Tarantino's landmarks for me & i say it from the depth of my heart, its not easy to touch people's heart with your movies something Ron Howard did with 'A Beautiful Mind' & Gabriele Muccino with 'The Pursuit Of Happyness' or to be more precise 'Frank Capra' with 'Its A Wonderful Life'.

Now why all this.Well, this much praise for the Bhatt Sahab when i haden't even seen his Masterpiece.Well, dere may be more & in fact are a bunch of such Magnum Opus of his which i haven't still seen but 13 years post its release today when i saw %^&&* i really cursed myself for seeing it so late.Matlab, yaar bachpan me movies se kyun mehroom rakha hame itna :((( Seriously :x :x :x

I have promised myself one thing,& that is for sure,my children,am gonna show them the best of movies since they are 2-3 years old, starting with as promised 'Tangled' & letting them see life through some of the best made movies[& books too].I am a real, firm believer that there are movies/books which have & which still can change societies, mindsets of people & an individual on a whole, they really do.Its not really long ago when people came back home watching 'Baagban' & thanked God for being in their lives in the form of their parents.Though it varies from people to people but it all depends upon what you wanna teach them & how deep your love is.

Well,if dere's just one reason why am blabbering like a Chatterbox bout all these ethics, values & the importance of movies & Real Cinema its all coz of 'Zakhm'.

Well,to praise this movie i really have to undermine all the other movies i have seen recently. Its an irony that we live in a country where movies like Murder emerge as a Blockbuster & a movie which won a National Award, which in the finest way possible captured the Emotions of a person entangled in the Hindu-Muslim good for nothing violence,a fight to give his mother some space to be buried, politicians who even can't stop playing their evil games even with a dead soul, the movie which deserved to be shown to everyone, every human possible,a lesson to be learnt & if not for others,if not even for their country[if they are so selfish],atleast for their own children, let them have a Bharat where they can live in Harmony with each other peacefully eternally,Flopped.

The man who played a pivotal role in burning Pooja Bhatt in that movie which eventually caused her death is shown tormenting himself with the fear of going to Hell just coz of the fact that she was a Muslim like him[which he didn't knew earlier].A Pity that religion comes before humanity [for him] & what he got in return.

The movie in just those 120 Minutes captures all with a Lifetime performance by Ajay Devgan & a really powerful role by Pooja Bhatt. When this movie emerged as a flop,Mahesh Bhatt a man who had seen it all in his life[as people say],the movie itself dedicated to his mother,he took the decision which was inevitable.

"India's audience justs needs Sex in the movies & now am gonna provide them with that only".

Mahesh Bhatt

& that is how we had....

 MURDER

ZEHER

PAAP

JISM

ROG

& many more, all huge business generating instant Hits for the Bhatt clan just proving himself correct & givin us another reason to be really ashamed of ourselves, but then its the truth & it has to be respectfully accepted.

'Zakhm' is so highly Emotionally charged its really gonna move u,how hard you may be on the outside & even inside.'Kunal Khemu' as a debutant deserved a National Award too if there for one for the Kids. The movie surprises, touches, moves, motivates, agitates & even intimidates you in all the possible ways.

Can anyone imagine being in the place of Ajay in 'Zakhm'.The climax scene which may as well be the most moving scene of Indian Motion Cinema.

"Mere Marne Ke Baad Mere Shareer Ko Kachde Ke Dabbe Me Phek Dena,Lekin Maa Ke Shareer Ke Saath Wahi Hoga Jaisa Maa Chahti Thi"

"Main Sirf Itna Jaanta Hoon Ki Duniya Ka Koi Bhi Dharm Ek Bete Ko Apni Maa Ki Aakhari Ikshya Puri Karne Se Nahi Rook Sakta"

Ajay Devgan infuses life to these lines & believe me there would have been pin drop silence everywhere when these lines were being delivered.

& for Bhatt Saheb, they say its his own story,well..i really need to read more about it from some credible sources but if its true,i don't think its one thing which can ever be forgotten by anyone & thus the name as they say......
